TOTAL POP STAR, IS IT LEGAL?
TOTAL POP STAR, one of the largest online singing competition might be in hot water if proven to be violating certain U.S. and Interstate Laws.
This surfaced after it was discovered that Total Pop Star has neither been licensed nor registered at Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and SESAC.
ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC's logo has been embedded at the bottom of every Total Pop Star page with this inscription: "This competition maintains current public performance licenses from the following agencies: BMI, ASCAP & SESAC"
ASCAP, SESAC, and BMI are regulating bodies to protect the rights of performers, composers and authors as mandated in the Performing Rights and Performance Rights under the provision of the U.S Copyright Law.
Following the May 30th event which catapulted some of the Season One finalists votes back to zero due to some alleged glitch in the voting system, one curious contestant who refuses to be named searched Total Pop Star's licenses through the web, and not a single registration was found.
Furthermore, it was found that Mr. Andrew Van Slee, Total Pop Star Executive Producer and his Independent Film Alliance IFAdotCOM LLC) which maintains the Total Pop Star site continues to operate Despite being served with an AMMENDED DESIST AND REFRAIN ORDER for violations of Section 25110 of the California Corporations Code. Subconsequently, Mr. Van Slee was facing some more charges for violating the IOWA Code 502.201 or the California Securities Law in another case of Desist and Refrain Order issued to him and his Extraordinary Media Group and Peroxide Pictures, LLC. Peroxide Films was created to produce the movie "Totally Blonde" which continues to be on sale.
Some Total Pop Star supporters and contestants has expressed their concerns through email. However ISSUES ONLINE still haven't heard any word or reactions from TPS Management and Administration to clear themselves off this issue as of press-time.
